Information for Dog Owners

Happy Dog by Laura Ellard (age 12)

General Information

  • Dogs are welcome in most areas of the Park, provided that they are kept under close control.
  • They are not permitted in the Nature Reserve, to prevent disturbance to the wildlife in this area.
  • Please keep your dog under close control at all times - keep them away from other visitors and the cattle in the river meadows.
  • Please clean up after your dog to allow everyone to enjoy the Park. There are many dog bins around the Park, and bags are available from the Visitor Centre.

Rosie the Dog's Diary
As we start to approach Springtime I find that I have a certain spring in my paws every day as my owner takes me for my daily walk. It has been quite a mild Winter and my usual places for rolling in the mud have been somewhat restricted.   I so enjoy my morning walks with my owner, sometimes we meet up with our friends and then I can show off my ball catching skills!
I am so lucky to have such an amazing place to visit; the Harrold Odell Country Park is so dog-friendly. There are a few simple rules, designed to make everyone happy:-
1.      Owners are asked to keep dogs under control, this is really not difficult for my owner as she always thinks ahead and puts me onto my lead if encountering children or people who may be nervous of dogs.
2.      I am not permitted in the Nature Reserve – not a problem as I have the rest of the circular walk around the large lake or the River Meadows to run in.
3.      When the cattle return to the River Meadows in the Spring, my owner will be on the look out for the cattle and keep me away from them.
4.      Dog bags are provided free of charge and are located at all the dog bin stations around the park – there are not many places you can visit that provide such a good incentive. I do know that the Park Rangers have the ability to place fixed penalty tickets to owners who do not clear up after their dogs – make sure your owner is not one of them.
Remember, the Country Park has been designed for the use of everyone, it really does not take much thought to ensure that we all enjoy the facilities on offer. Happy dog walking – maybe I shall meet you on one of my daily walks.
